Grussworte des Bürgermeisters
von Wien

Vienna is the undisputed capital of music. Many of the greatest artists in history and across all music genres composed and performed in the City of Music. The spirit of the city has inspired creative geniuses to compose unmatched masterpieces from the First Viennese School and the modernist composers of the early 20th century to contemporary composers and musicians.

Vienna is also the dance and ball capital of the world. When the Congress danced in Vienna in 1814, it was not the first time that people from all around the world enjoyed visiting Viennese ballrooms. In the end, it was Johann Strauss Son whose world-famous waltz compositions brought musical perfection to these incomparable social events. Today, the Viennese spirit can be enjoyed at the Vienna Opera Ball, at more than 400 other ball events in Vienna, and at Viennese Balls abroad.

The whole year 2025 is fully dedicated to Johann Strauss. On the anniversary of his 200th birthday, the King of Waltz is celebrated by his city of birth as well as by all Viennese Balls in an impressive manner. The City of Vienna is honoured to share the unique Viennese joie de vivre, captured by Johann Strauss in his incomparable melodies and enjoyed by many to this day, at the legendary Viennese Balls all around the world.

As Mayor and Governor of Vienna, I would like to wish all ball organisers every success and all guests unforgettable ball nights filled with verve and joy when they hear the invitation “Everybody waltz!”.
