Vienna is renowned as city of music but we could also call Vienna the “world capital of ball events” as the Viennese ball tradition goes back to the 18thcentury. While the great masters of classical music lived and worked here, Vienna was also home to the composers of light music such as Johann Strauss and Joseph Lanner. Today, people still dance to their waltz music at balls all around the world. Over time, the Blue Danube Waltz has become Vienna’s unofficial anthem and is a musical message that is understood the world over. The timeless sound of the Viennese waltz is at the centre of the great Viennese balls that are the highlights of social life in our city each year. However, modern music has also become a part of our ball events in the past few years. With the Viennese balls abroad, the City of Vienna wants to bring the Viennese ball tradition to other cities worldwide in the spirit of our good and friendly relations.
The Viennese ball in Stockholm is a special greeting from Vienna, the city on the Danube, to Stockholm, the city of culture and joy of life. I wish the organisers every possible success and all guests an unforgettable evening. I hope you will have a good time waltzing the night away!
